What is the Diversity Aware Charter Mark?

The Diversity Aware Charter Mark is a scheme to which organisations providing services to same-sex parents and prospective parents can apply, in order to demonstrate their awareness meeting the needs of lesbian and gay parents.

By gaining the Charter Mark, organisations are demonstrating their commitment to:

·      providing fair and inclusive services to same-sex parents and prospective parents

·      engaging with lesbian and gay parents in order to meet their needs

·      tackling discrimination and unfair treatment

In order to be awarded the Diversity Aware Charter Mark, organisations need to meet a set of robust criteria designed to examine their policies and their practices.

The application process and the Charter Mark are not intended to benchmark the generic services of each organisation, or to duplicate the work of regulatory and other governing bodies. It is a tool to encourage awareness of lesbian and gay parents, and to promote a level of good practice in the sector which goes beyond basic compliance with the law.
